Excellence, innovation, and creativity were celebrated tonight at the 2022 ARCHIDEX Nite with winners of the ARCHIDEX Star Award and ARCHIDEX Best Stand were announced.

It was truly a “starry” night as winners were greeted with huge rounds of applause during the gala dinner held for the first time in two years at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel Kuala Lumpur’s Grand Ballroom.

Here’s what some of the winners have to share with us:

“We are elated about winning the product, and we are excited at the opportunities before us,” says Mapei Malaysia Sdn Bhd marketing manager Cynthia Chong. “This winning product is a great solution for cracks which is an issue often faced in by built practitioners, and we are delighted that it receives due recognition.

Dave, director of Solid GreenTEch Solutions Sdn Bhd says, “We feel great winning! The hard work we put in has yielded its fruits. We are proud to have won the award because we do not import these materials, but we manufacture them locally. We won several awards in the past years, because we are inventors. We aim to solve customers’ pain points and commercialising an invention.

“We are delighted!” says Billie Lau, principal and managing director of GRM Composite Wood (M) Sdn Bhd. “Winning the award is an achievement, even though it is not the first time that we have been winning. This year, we take on the open concept to demonstrate the versatility of our finishing products and we are happy that our ideas and efforts have won the judges’ hearts.”

Alfred Teh, managing director of Builden Industries Sdn Bhd, explains, “Our participation over the past 10 years shows that we believe in ARCHIDEX’s effectiveness in reaching out to our targeted markets. This year is especially memorable, as everyone looks forward to attending a physical event again. This is a good sign of rebuilding for the industry, and we hope to have foreign trade visitors back again next year. It is an added bonus to win the award, and it fortifies our branding  

“It’s great to be the winner at tonight’s award show,” says David Larreta, export director of Ideal Standard International NV. “We’re prouder to be back in Malaysia after a long time and have the opportunity to showcase Armitage Shanks’ newest line of products at ARCHIDEX.”

James Yeoh, managing director of Solid Horizon Sdn Bhd, explains, “We participated in ARCHIDEX in 2019 where we competed for the award. We did not win, but we learned what we needed to improve for our entry this year. We are very grateful for this award because everyone in the team worked hard to bring our innovation to the creation of Rumah Chomel.”

“We are honoured to win the ARCHIDEX Star award, which provides support and recognition while propelling our company forward. In addition, the process of getting the award has allowed us to create new relationships with industry professionals and gain valuable insights from both of these groups,” says George Yap, managing director of Sandor (Jurusanwa Enterprise Sdn Bhd).

The submissions for the ARCHIDEX Star Awards were judged by an appointed panel comprising architects, interior designers, product designers, and other industry leaders. Nominated products were judged by these criteria:

• Design: creativity of inventions
• Innovation: introduction of new methods
• Technology: application of science, especially for industrial or commercial objectives
• Lifestyle and society: how products affect, influence, or better communities
• Standards: durability and/or statutory recognition or accreditations
