The wondrous possibilities of bamboo take centerstage this year at the PAM Networking Cocktail at the PAM Future City Pavilion at ARCHIDEX 2022.

Bamboo Ark I: Exemplary Bamboo Buildings, published by Atelier International, was launched to great fanfare. 

Architect Dr Tan Loke Mun introduced the book while architect, author, and advocate for bamboo, Ewe Jin Low, gave a presentation on Breaking Bamboo Barriers. 

“Bamboo Ark I brings together a collection of contemporary buildings from across the world. This book provides a reference from bamboo architecture to further promote the use of bamboo in design and construction,” says Dr Tan. 

Book editor Sandy Chew walked the audience through the making of the book amid the pandemic, explaining how the group pulled it together with a simple passion for bamboo.

These buildings featured in the book were selected to showcase their particular design based on location, built form, and structure. 

Bamboo is a re-emerging material, and there are limited design and technical books for bamboo when users compare it to other established materials such as timber, steel, and concrete. 

Delivered from the perspective of an architect who has immersed, designed, built, and lived in bamboo buildings, this book provides a how-to reference on bamboo architecture to further promote the use of bamboo in design and construction.
