KPKT Minister Launches ARCHIDEX x AREC, Call to Build Futures Beyond Bricks and Mortar

At the launch of ARCHIDEX x AREC today at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, Minister of Housing and Local Government YB Nga Kor Ming delivered a rousing address on the need to reimagine the built environment as more than just physical structures. “We are not just building houses, we are building futures,” he said, calling on the industry to align construction and design with long-term urban and environmental resilience.
Nga acknowledged the growing importance of sustainability features in today’s developments but also noted the challenges they bring. “Sustainable solutions are no longer optional. Yet, we must confront the reality that such features come with rising costs,” he said. He highlighted the paradox of urbanisation, where cities are engines of growth but also face mounting pressures in housing, mobility, and infrastructure.
Amidst global shifts in capital flow, shaped by tariffs, geopolitics, and supply chain disruptions, the Minister urged industry players to adapt boldly. “Every crisis is a catalyst for innovation,” he noted, citing opportunities in rethinking urban spaces, retrofitting ageing infrastructure, and embracing green technologies.
Nga also emphasised the strategic role of ASEAN and regional cooperation in creating resilient cities. “Our strength lies in our diversity. By working together, we can unlock shared solutions that are inclusive, adaptive, and future-ready.”
The launch of ARCHIDEX and AREC sets the stage for deeper dialogues on urban development, sustainability, and innovation — shaping not just the cities of tomorrow, but the lives within them.
